Strategies for getting ahead in 2017

By Pastor Andrew Bawa

"Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches." Proverbs 24: 3-4 (NKJV).

Bible Readings: Jeremiah 29: 11, Job 28: 7-28, James 3: 17, Jeremiah 33: 3, John 7: 38, Hebrew 11: 1, Hebrew 2: 2-4, Ezra 8: 21-23, Acts 13vs 2-3, Matthew 5: 5, 1 Peter 5: 7, James 1: 6-8,  2 Timothy 2: 15.

The more you know, the more exploits you command. Knowledge is key! Exposure is the price for exploits. If you are not exposed, you can't do exploits. You have to know your God to do exploits. Once you are not exposed to knowledge, you will not prosper. Exposure takes you to the height of where God wants you to be.
2017 has already been predetermined, arranged and fixed by the creator of it which is God. Anything you start, started with an idea and that is a plan which you have to put into writing. God has plans for you, the devil also has his own plans for you, your friends have plans for you and you also have plans for yourself. if you don't plan anything, you have already planned to fail.

•    If you follow the plans of God, he foots the bill. You have to find out what God's plan is for your life in 2017. The desires of your heart have to be in line with God's desire for your life.
•    If you follow the plans of the devil, destructions follows. Some blessings come with sorrow.
•    The people you think are your friends are not, they are your acquaintances. Some friends are parasites, they suck from you and cause you harm. If your refuse to take responsibilities, you'll become a liability, and then become a causality.
•    If you follow your plan, you foot the bill and that could be very difficult. It will be very hard.  Whatever you design and put on paper, you've already committed to succeed. If God has a plan for you, you should go to him and search for it. God's plans are conceived in wisdom and it take knowledge to bring it out.

Discovering the plans for your life in 2017:
⁃    Ask through prayers. When you pray, God opens your eyes to mysteries.
⁃    Ask through fasting. Some things don't leave until you fast.
⁃    Ask through diligent search of the scriptures through meditation. The scriptures illuminates you.
⁃    Ask yourself what you are passionate about. Tell God to reveal your passion. It must not contradict the scriptures.
⁃    You must have peace. Peace is an indicator.
⁃    The plan has to be bigger than you. If you know how to do it, forget it!
⁃    The plan must not be about you but to bless humanity.
⁃    The plan must be able to keep you awake at night to think.
⁃    The plan you have must attract oppositions.
⁃    The plan must bring glory to God.

How to execute the plans:
•    By faith.
•    Write down your plans.
•    You must continue to study.
•    You must continue to pray and fast.
•    Remain humble.
•    You must be focused and not distracted.
•    Look for Godly accountability partners.

Make the right decisions for 2017 early and manage them for the rest of the year. Plan your life with wisdom. Be wise!

Supernatural Settlements

"But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you." - 1 Peter 5:10

Bible Reading: Psalms 2:1-4, 2 Corinthians 8:3, James 1:17, Hebrews 10:38, Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11

Your settlement depends on your connection to your source. Mary was connected to the tribe of Judah, a lineage of David.

Whose house are you from? Are you of the house of God?
Are you connected with a thriving moving ark of destiny? Are you established by God?
Are you eating a balanced heavenly diet from the word of God? Expect a settlement.

What you eat determines what you become in life, you are a product of what you eat and where you are eating from is vital to your settlement

Are you genuinely connected to your spiritual father? Are you a consistent tither? Are you a dangerous sower? Are you consistently advancing the kingdom through evangelism outreach and by giving to increase the church? Are you prayerful? Are you always full of praises? Are you living a life of thanksgiving? Expect a settlement

Hindrances to Your Settlements
•    Wrong/Negative Mindset
•    Lack of expectations
•    Fear of what people will say
•    Fear of the destination
•    Lack of faith
•    Lack of joy
•    Negative speech
•    Incessant complaints
•    Fear of being rejected
•    Fear of tomorrow
•    Being too comfortable with the status quo

The Word contd.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." - John 1:1-3 (KJV)

Bible Reading: Hebrews 1:3, John 1:14, Romans 10:17, Hebrews 11:3, Acts 20:32

The word can be classified into three: the living word, the written word and the spoken word.

The living word is the person of Christ himself. Christ is a word of God in person. He is the manifestation of God's word. The written word is called Logos; it is the word of God as a letter (the Bible). The spoken word comes out of inspiration from God through the mouth. It is also called Rhema.

The word is specific to a person at a specific time. Rhema is the word of God being lifted from writing to speaking. When the Holy Spirit lifts the word out of the Bible to you, it turns to Rhema.

Miracles follow the word of God. When a miracle is taking place, you have to know which word is backing it up. Here are few reasons why we don't experience many miracles these days:

  • We lack patience
  • We lack understanding of God's word
  • We prefer our plans to God's plans
  • We do not testify of the miracles God has done already
  • Sin
  • False preaching and prophesies
  • We are not conversant with God's word
  • We say and believe something different from God's word
  • We talk about our circumstances and not the Word of God

When you are not worded, you don't know the owner of the Word of God and are not qualified for wonders. Without God's word, don't expect wonders. When you pray, you tell God your mind but when you read the word, God tells you his mind. Your mind is limited but God is unlimited.

To know the mind of God is to read his word. The root of faith is the word and that faith produces a giant in you that pulls down any mountains you are facing. It is the simplicity of the word that confuses the devil. When you have the word, you are armed and become more dangerous to the devil.

Whatever you want is what you speak. You need the word to make your world. So, speak in the word of God!

The Word

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made." - 1 John 1:1-3 (NKJV)

Bible Reading: John 1:14, Romans 10:17, Revelations 19:13, 1 John 1:1

All things were made through the Word. The Word is beginning of all that exists. It creates life. No Word goes out without establishing its purpose.

The Word of God is divided into two: Logos and Rhema. Logos is the Word written as a letter (the bible) to us. Rhema is the Word spoken to us as the Spirit breathes life on our situation. It leads to manifestations. You need the Holy Spirit to speak life into the Logos to experience your Rhema.

Mind your words. Your words are powerful. It speaks into existence. Watch what you say because your words are the bedrocks from which all other things spring forth.

Speak words that reinforce who you are. Your words should edify you and others.

Strategies to Fending the Enemy Off: How to Recognize, Avoid and Overcome Faith/Destiny destroyers

"Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which theLord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die." - Genesis 3:1-3 (KJV)

Bible Reading: Hebrews 11:1, Romans 10:17, Ephesians 2:8-9, 1 John 2:15-17, 2 Corinthians 11:14, Hebrews 10:25

The devil is always ready to attack our Faith - the source of Christianity. He never wastes his time fighting someone who is going nowhere. If you are heading somewhere, the devil is surely going to try attacking you. Only destiny carriers on their way to fulfilling destinies are being attacked by the devil.

The devil does not waste time. He knows his time is limited so he only shows up when he notices the following:

  • You are being saved
  • You are being delivered
  • You are being blessed by God
  • Your star is rising
  • Your star is shining
  • You have received a miracle from God.
  • You are on your way to fulfilling destiny.

When the devil sees these happening, he tries to attack the source of it all - our faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God, it is your salvation. The devil attacks our faith through other people's suggestions, opinions, ideas, comments and by instilling fear. He uses what we hear, see or where we are at the moment to distract us. So, be careful what you expose your mind to.

To fend off the devil's tricks, here are some strategies to keep in mind:

  • Stay connected to God's word
  • Avoid ignorant whispers, comments, suggestions and opinions
  • Avoid giving out too much information
  • Be spiritually aware
  • Avoid being idle
  • Continuously fellowship with other believers
  • Be mindful of little foxes (anger, malice, bitterness, jealously, hatred, gossip, unforgiveness, prayerlessness, ungratefulness)
  • Avoid ungodly counsel
  • Spend time worshiping in God's presence
  • Continuously seek God's face
  • Fast more often.

It is important to stay plugged in to the Word of God and to the fellowship of believers. This will help deter the any advances of the devil to steal your faith.

Back to the Basics 2

By Pastor Andrew Bawa

"Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits. And those of the people who understand shall instruct many; yet for many days they shall fall by sword and flame, by captivity and plundering. Now when they fall, they shall be aided with a little help; but many shall join with them by intrigue." - Daniel 11:32-34 (NKJV)

Success encompasses wisdom, power and wealth. Wisdom is the sucessful combination of insight to influence others. Power involves gaining strategic advantage over others. Wealth is the accumulation and control of resources. These three make up success.

Knowledge is everything. The more you know, the more you can command. Exposure is the price you have to pay to do exploits. How can you be a master if you don't know enough?

The secret of success is knowing your God. If you are connected to God, you are connected to success. To know your God, you must know his word. You must study his word diligently, meditate on it and apply it to every thing you do. Seek to know and not to be known.

To Know Your God:

  • Have an encounter with Him.
  • Receive revelations through His word. (Acts 20:22)
  • Commune with Him via prayers and worship.

"So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech. Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment." - 1 Peter 2:1-2

Introduction

Who was 1 PETER written to? Asian minorities, who were suffering rejection in the world because of their faith.

Who is the author of the epistle? Peter, even though his secretary could have helped him. 1 Peter 5:12

When was it written? Scholars believe it was around early 60s AD, just before Emperor Nero killed him during a time of severe persecutions (64-68 AD). Nero died in 68 AD.

To understand the verses 1-2, you have to go back to chapter 1 (especially verses 22-23). Notice the colon in the end of verse 22 (in some translations).

With that in mind, let's continue our journey to chapter 2.

Main Points

1. Get rid of all (not some) evil behavior (Malice: intention or desire to do evil)

What is an evil behavior? 1 Peter 2:1

      a) Deceit: concealing or misrepresenting the truth; not being truthful is an evil behavior.

"the act or practice of deceiving; concealment or distortion of the truthfor the purpose of misleading; duplicity;fraud; cheating:

an act or device intended to deceive; trick; stratagem."

       b) Hypocrisy: acting what you are not is an evil behavior :

"a pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc., that one does not really possess"

"...a pretense of having some desirable or publicly approved attitude"

       c) Jealousy: not happy for someone is an evil behavior :

"...jealous resentment against a rival, a person enjoying success or advantage, or against another's success or advantage itself.

mental uneasiness from suspicion or fear of rivalry, unfaithfulness, etc.,"

       d)  All unkind speech

Lack of mercy or lack of kindness

2. Get back to the basics. 1 Peter 2:2

Compare: 1 Corinthians 3:2-3 and  Hebrews 5:12- 14

Peter used a simile: like

Milk is a pale liquid produced by the mammary glands of mammals. It is the primary source of nutrition for infant mammals before they are able to digest other types of food. Early-lactation milk contains colostrum, which carries the mother's antibodies to its young and can reduce the risk of many diseases. It contains many other nutrients including protein and lactose.

For a newborn child to grow, they need some basic nutrients. Otherwise, there will be some deficiencies and they may be prone to diseases or they may die. It may affect their IQ, if they eventually survive without taking the right milk (breast milk)

Advantages of breastfeeding your child and the spiritual application

A) Human milk is biologically specific for human babies

Applications: Gods word is specific for His children. John 3:6-8

B) Human milk contains enzymes, hormones, and immunoglobulins that simply can’t be duplicated in formula.

Application: The word of God is pure and can't be corrupted. 1 Peter 1:23; Proverbs 30:5-6; Psalms 12: 6-8

C) Breast milk is from living tissue that changes to meet your baby’s nutritional needs and to protect him against disease.

Application: The word of God is living and powerful sharper than any edged sword... Hebrews. 4:12; James 1:21

D) Human milk also changes to protect your baby against germs.

Application: God’s word which taken will protect you from germs (foreign bodies) which is demons, spirits.

E) Breast milk contains antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal factors as well as antibodies to many specific disease organisms

Applications: God’s word contain anti-depression, antidote to fear, worry, anti-poverty, anti-stress, anti-anxiety and any negative thing that may come against you. God’s word has the answer. You have to drink it to be immune.

F) Let’s not forget the importance of the emotional security and closeness to mother that nursing infants enjoy.

Application: If you take this milk of God’s word, you will be close to your father and be emotionally secure.

3. Could you name some of the basic needs or nutrients required for a child to grow physically, emotionally and socially?

4. What are the basic needs or nutrients required for you to grow spiritually?

5. Crave or desire the basics

a.      Cry - You desire by crying for it just like a baby cries when it needs food Psalms 42:1

b.      Thirst - You desire by longing for it- the Deer pants for the water. Psalms 42:2, John 7:37; 1 Thessalonians. 1:9,10, Isaiah 55:1)

c.       Hunger - You desire by being hungry for the word of God and for righteousness. Isaiah 55:1

Conclusion

Peter’s admonition to us is to be sure we take what we need to grow. Anything that we take other than milk will bring a result that maybe deadly and detrimental, not just to us producing stunted growth, but to everyone around us. We become liabilities. Desire, crave and ask for God’s milk and become like Him, not just in words, but in your lifestyle as a Generation with A Difference.
